This is the metal needle plate and has locations or holes for the needle and feed dog that will protrude through. It locates next to the L shaped grey plastic plate. Sometimes the needle may become damaged in the area around the needle hole which may cause the machine to have irregular stitches. Often replacing the needle plate solves tension and thread snagging problems.
