Juki HZL-DX3 Sewing Machine

Apart from its 155 stitch patterns with 3 font styles using 10 memory folders and an array of 16 buttonhole types, imitation hand-quilting stitch or scallop elongation function, the Juki HZL-DX3 computerised sewing machine is a complete workstation for the quilting enthusiast.

It is fully computerised and designed to make every stitch perfect, it’s enjoyable to use thanks to the high-quality feel the DX3 has. But what does a computerised sewing machine mean? For sure it’s well designed and each stitch is pre-set to provide the best settings for each one of the 155 stitches. It has a very green footprint with a recycling ratio of about 87%. The modified pulse motor and improved power supply reduce power consumption in standby mode by about 37% and power consumption during basic machine operation has been reduced by about 17%, as compared with the conventional model. A huge amount of thinking has gone in to producing this superb sewing machine.

Hands-free Thread Trimming  Like its sister models the DX3 uses the heel press action on the foot control to trim off both top and bobbin threads, the foot control heal action can also be programmed for other functions. It has the knee lifter, start and stop button that I know many of our customers like to use once they have mastered it.

Threading is quick thanks to the well-thought-out needle threader. Once threaded in the simple 1 to 8 steps (even step 8 is a bobbing thread end cutter that trims thread the correct start to sewing length) a push down on the needle threader is all that’s required and the needle is threaded.

Winding thread onto an empty bobbin can be done while operating the machine, it has its own bobbin winding motor and a simple cutter to cut off excess thread.

Once the bobbin is full it is inserted into the bobbin holder you guide the thread and follow the groves, the last guide will cut the thread end off, again to the correct length ready to start sewing. No need to get your scissors out. Clever!

No need to adjust the thread tensions as the Juki DX3 machine will take care of that, remember it’s a full-on computer sewing machine!

The key stitches are direct selections from the front panel, just below the LCD screen. Stitch settings can be overridden with a width up to 7mm and a length up to 5mm. While topstitching the needle position can be set anywhere between the 7mm width window by function keys.

While quilt making the extra high presser foot lifter can raise the foot 12mm for inserting multiple fabric layers. The smooth box feed allows a flowing movement of the feed dogs, which in turn gives a more controllable fabric movement forward and in reverse.

The DX3 has a special zigzag needle plate that allows converting it to a straight stitch plate with a simple push of a lever, no need to unscrew and screw on another needle plate every time you want to sew perfectly straight seams or quilt piecing.

Juki has thought of everything, even the buttonholes are sewn with the help of a computer using the special plate-type plug-in automatic buttonhole foot. The other presser foot can be clipped into place when needed.
