Do overlockers need special threads?
Do overlockers need special threads?
No special threads are needed, usually we recommend using a polyester based thread, for less snapping and a longer life after many machine washes.
- Overlockers use standard thread designed for serging, which is finer and allows for smoother feeding through the machine.
- Yes, you can use regular sewing thread, it is more economical and efficient to use cones of thread specifically made for overlockers.
- Cone thread is often sold in larger spools up to 5000 meters and offers better tension and performance during overlocking.
- Coats thread is the largest manufacture of overlock thread, it is polyester, so it is strong and durable and has a lovely soft feel. Guttermann Toldi-lock is another popular thread.
